Blessing our Sons and Daughters

Do you ever wish that your prayers for your children could be more effective–more powerful? All that we desire for our sons and daughters can be unlocked through faith, with our mouths.

Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. What we say matters. Below are ten powerful words—declarations from the Word of God—for our children.

A declaration is a prayer that names and claims positive, Godly events and outcomes for you or others. Often, declarations include God’s Word, straight from the Bible. They are spoken aloud. A “decree” is an official order for something; and thanks to Jesus, God serves up what we order. We can declare and decree things that are in God’s will; thank God for hearing our prayers; and then just wait at the table until the banquet arrives!

Consider praying these declarations for your children, grandchildren, and all the children of the world. (For a printable copy, please scroll to the end of this post.)

Opening Prayer

Father, I receive from You the spiritual authority you have granted me over my household. I make these declarations by the cleansing blood of Jesus, through the power of your Word and the Holy Spirit. I cover my children and raise them up fulfill their destinies by your divine design. As it is spoken, so it shall be done, in Jesus’ name!

1. Salvation and Empowerment

My child declares with his/her mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in his/her heart that God raised Jesus from the dead; therefore, my child is saved (Romans 10: 9). My child has received the fiery baptism of the Holy Ghost to walk in resurrection power (Acts 1:8), just as Jesus did. I claim for my child what Your Word promises. Yes and amen!

2. Sound Mind

I declare and decree that my child has the mind of Christ, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 2:16. My child hears the voice of the Lord and follows. My child’s mind operates in peace and clarity. As it is written in 2 Timothy 1:7, God has not given my child a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I praise God for creating my child’s brilliant, unique mind!

3. Will and Emotions

I believe that Jesus continually pours love into my child’s heart. As a result, my child has a tender, loving, obedient heart and willingness to serve family, friends, and community. My child is emotionally stable and healthy. It is well with my child’s soul! Thank you, Lord.

4. Physical Health

I declare and decree that my child’s physical body is healed and whole, in Jesus’ name. I agree with Isaiah 53:5 that by Your stripes my child is already healed. I declare that according to 3 John 2, above all things my child prospers, is in health, even as the child’s soul prospers. I thank you that my child now walks in divine health. Thank you, Jesus!

5. Provision

I receive for my children God’s perfect provision. He is a generous Father, exceeding their every need in areas such as family, friends, mentors, safety, food, shelter, finances, and education. I am witnessing God’s promise from Philippians 4:19: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Thanks be to God!

6. Family

My child is a unique and valuable member of this family, as well as the family of God.  He/she speaks and acts in ways that strengthen the family bond. My child thrives in the family environment, because it is full of peace, love, and understanding. I am grateful that the Holy Spirit dwells in our home!

7. Generational Blessings

My children will grow and prosper, and every future generation of my family will proclaim the words of Joshua 24:15: As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord! I uproot any unhealthy generational patterns. In their place, I plant a tree of life, springing from the Lord, for my children and future generations.  Thank you from my heart, God!

8. Educational Environments

I declare and decree that in school/camp/extracurricular activities, my child is blessing coming in and blessed going out, as it is written in Deuteronomy 28:6. The Holy Spirit is my child’s guide and protector. Jesus is my child’s teacher. My child’s time spent in learning activities is positive, fun, and conducive to growth in all areas: spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and academic. Thank you, Jesus!

9. Educational Team

I thank God for providing a safety net of teachers, mentors, advocates, and counselors around my child. In Jesus’ name, I open lines of communication and understanding among all of these individuals for the Godly training, encouragement, and education of my child. Unity is present, for God’s Word reminds us to complete His joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind (Philippians 2:2). Thank you God, that my child’s educational team is of one mind—yours.

10. Goals and Priorities

I declare and decree that my child can set and attain Godly goals. My child lives out Proverbs 16:3—”Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” I continuously celebrate as my child attains goals in the academic, social, physical, and spiritual areas of his/her life. He/she is an overcomer! Amen!
